What is your suggestion or idea?

Section C-2.1 First Paragraph

Insert the words ““and ongoing”” between ““historic”” and ““injustices.””

What is the reason for your amendment idea?

The present wording seems to imply a focus on things that have happened in the past. Healing the many ongoing injustices in our nation and the world is of course very important. To leave the word ““historic”” by itself could support an image of an aging denomination looking back in time.

Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?

Have written the above to congregation’s article 2 group and have had one reply. The reply from this individual seemed supportive of the change.

To focus on “historic” injustices does not do anything about preventing current harms being done marginalized persons and communities. In fact, by having it a major purpose of the UUA may prevent ethnic persons from joining who desire a safe haven from current racial harms.
