#273 | Bill Jordan | Delete "to heal historic injustices"

Submission 273
Bill Jordan
UU Church of Akron

What is your suggestion or idea?

In Section C-2.1, delete ““to heal historic injustices.””

What is the reason for your amendment idea?

Of course UUs should work to heal historic injustices. But this work is done at the congregational level. The UUA has not been and must not be an action organization. It is a service organization for the congregations and other UU entities.

This is one of several provisions that continue the centralization of power in the UUA. This must stop. The UUA serves those of us in the congregations, not the other way around. And the UUA has no authority to act ““to heal historic injustices”” other than through support of the congregations. You must make this clear.

Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?

Not with the congregation as a whole. We have been prevented from having discussion about anything that might undermine or question the proposed revisions to Article II. Yes, I have discussed with this with fellow UUs, all of whom are deeply concerned that the UUA has been and continues to centralize control in Boston, with the apparent goal of auditing and otherwise reviewing the congregations to assure they comply with the UUA’s new gospel, which many of them do not share.
