#482 | LeRae Niell | Written order should match logo

Submission 482

What is your suggestion or idea?

Idea: Clarity of Organization in 2.2 (This may be considered a matter of editing rather than an amendment.)
The written descriptions of our values should be put in the same order as the value words in the logo.
Either order could be changed as long as they match.
For example, if the logo is described or read clockwise, then the descriptionws should be listed in the same order: Interdependence, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Generosity, and Justice.

What is the reason for your amendment idea?

The more clearly organized the presentation of our values section is, the more accessible the information is, both to non-UUs and to members. How readily people can grasp the organization of the document is a measure of how inclusive our written word is.
I noticed anumber of people hurriedly flipping back and forth between the logo page and the page of descriptions of the values, searching for the corresponding parts during the initial presentation about article II.

Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?

Yes. They agreed that better organization would be useful and lend more immediate access. None objected, although it was not among most people’s priorities. Some recalled having to search for the information during the presentation.
