#427 | Redford Williams | Concern about "share our values"

Submission 427
Redford Williams
Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (Durham, NC) 6632

What is your suggestion or idea?

I believe t the focus on Love is a good idea, but have
some strong concerns regarding the statement in Section C-2.4.
Inclusions that ““We strive to be an association of congregations that
truly welcome all persons who share our values.”” I’m concerned this could be interpreted as being a barrier to all folks who don’t
share our values – e.g. folks who voted for Trump or folks who believe
you’re doomed to hell if you don’t accept Jesus as your savior. I believe the Article II Study Commission
who prepared this revision of Article II should consider changing the current Section C-2.4. Inclusions.

What is the reason for your amendment idea?

The current Section C-2.4 Inclusions could be interpreted as being a barrier to all folks who don’t
share our values – e.g. folks who voted for Trump or folks who believe
you’re doomed to hell if you don’t accept Jesus as your savior.

Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?

I have discussed it with our ERUUF Seniors group and there was general agreement regarding my concern.
