Section C-2.5. – ““individual’s right of conscience”” – replace
What is the reason for your amendment idea?
I am not familiar with the phrase. When I tried to research it it seems to have a wide variety of meanings; including use in federal statutes to describe protection for health care providers. Even after researching the phrase I can only surmise what is meant here. Not only is the phrase confusing and therefore unhelpful, the loftiness of the use of it seems exclusionary. It seems like a buzz phrase that only highly educated insiders can understand.
Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?
I have talked informally with approximately 10 congregants who agree with this recommendation. No time has been scheduled for the congregation as a whole to discuss the proposal.
