#223 | Bek Wheeler | Remove "through our association"

Submission 223

What is your suggestion or idea?

Current: 'As Unitarian Universalists, we covenant, congregation-to-congregation and through our association to support and assist one another in our ministries."

Proposed: We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to support and assist one another in our ministries."

What is the reason for your amendment idea?

The proposed revision is wordy, redundant and confusing. What does ““covenant, congregation-to-congregation and through our association”” even mean? Whose association? Not the UUA. Does it mean ""us, associating with each other? Then how is that different from covenanting to support and assist? Ditch this ““through our association”” thing.

(I had tried to do strike through in the suggestion/idea but couldn’t find the font tool.)

Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?

I’ve discussed it on the FB group Blue Boat Passengers: Info and Construction Discussion re Article II etc. and a while back with Marcus Folgiano on that group too.

I agree that, when possible (as in this case), it works better to keep it simple!
