I agree with John Sykes Comment: #121 | John Sykes | Keep 7 Principles and add an 8th
What is the reason for your amendment idea?
Our congregation voted to adopt the 8th Principal, which we regarded as a call to action to fight discrimination, racial prejudice and injustice both within the UUA and the wider community. The Article II revision has buried this call within several different paragraphs, to the extent that it appears to be no longer prioritized.
Have you discussed this idea with your congregation or other UUs?
As I explained, our congregation voted to adopt the 8th Principle as it had been given to us (although we had several word-smithing suggestions). In our discussions of the proposed Article II revisions, several members expressed a similar view, that the 7 principles plus the 8th was a clearer expression of our values.
