Senior citizen (age 75) living with a nursing home in a flood plain on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Diagnosed three times with COVID-19 despite vaccinations. Collapsed during a heat wave last year and rescued by EMTs. Mandatory evacuation during Hurricane Ian put me on the streets. Started work as a meals-on-wheels volunteer and watched government agencies reduce food assistance programs. I work with several congregations to help reduce suffering and to promote health equity and mutual aid. Living in Florida can be a challenge. Local wisdom: “If you want to exist, you got to resist.”
